Douyin is a music-creativity-based short-video social software developed by Beijing Douyin Technology Co., Ltd. In September 2016, the predecessor of Douyin, A.me, was launched; in December of the same year, it was officially renamed Douyin Short Videos (referred to as "Douyin"). On November 10, 2017, "Toutiao" acquired Musical.ly, a music-video-based social platform in North America, for 1 billion US dollars and merged with Douyin.
